Beats. Before a brother knew about the earlier Bronx war of congas, bongos, timbales was the blend, La Salsa, that got our words out. Crunchy snares, rolling drums, grooved basslines. When we picked our favorite part, found the words to tell all about it we became cultured. We find where its from, how its changed and amplified and why it’s so much more iller now. We are connoisseurs, nigga, over cups of 40 ounce tea brews or a variety of herbal blends in variegated fashions. Or just nothing but the beats…as I often need. When a Black/Brown brother is brutalized and oppressed, there is cause for a steady escape that marries ruggedness and beauty. It is these beats and as we have lost the mainstream application of our Art, the greatest crate isn’t old. It is a crate of today–brothers and sisters making Hip Hip Hop music. They create it just because and it becomes for the cause with the effect of our music and cultural expressions becoming a lifestyle again…cause it ought to be.

Infinite Thoughts, made up of brothers from another I’m honored to know, Nozs & E. Moreno, have mastered the Hip Hop papyri. On this simply titled, Instrumentals LP, they effortlessly drop 18 cuts that only an MC of great worth can match. A purity product out of the school of Pete Rock, they let their crunch and the extended musicality of the sample become an aura that fills the room. The horns on “I Got To Live” the commencement of good times and the “check one, two” invites cause we all MCs. The familiarity of samples re-flipped and counter chopped for “Almost Here” and “All Around” cause ill reminisce while the boom of “Morning Rush” and dignified horn work through the marching sandpapered snares of “Keep It – (MPC 2000 Version)” are open pages ready for lyricists.

Instrumentals is a near lost display of MPC craftsmanship and only brothers that love music making as a lifestyle still make it.
